| Aberdeen Coastguard ‘stand down’ search for Polish angler |

The alarm was raised on Sunday afternoon at around 2.30 pm when the Polish man disappeared while fishing at Altens Haven near Cove. His friend raised the alarm and Aberdeen Coastguard began coordinating at search. An RAF helicopter from Lossiemouth using infra red joined the RNLI all weather lifeboat from Aberdeen and various Coastguard teams in a search off the coastline for the missing angler. The weather was easterly winds of 25 knots with a sea state of up to 3 metres and a heavy swell. The man has not been found and the search was stood down. The missing man is thought to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s, and he was wearing a casual brown jacket. The search is not expected to resume. Duty Watch Manager at Aberdeen Coastguard Asad Manesh said: “This is the second time a rock angler has gone missing in the area within 18 months and we are concerned that anglers are aware of the tide patterns in the area. “We have to stress again to anglers pursuing their hobby that it is vital they check with us before heading to the cliffs for the present and forecast weather and tides and they wear the most appropriate gear. i.e. suit, carry flares and a beacon, and also they make sure they tell someone where they are going, and what time they expect to be back. “Follow these simple rules and you won’t be in difficulty for very long.”
